History of the Hatalian 34th and the Hatald System
History
The 34th Hatalian regiment hails from the system of Hatald, located in the vicinity of the Sabbat Sector at galactic location x:1187 y:1249 (link). The regiment was founded in M33, along with Hatalian regiments 15 through 40, during the Golden Age of the Imperium, to help expand the borders of the Imperium in Segmentums Pacificus and Tempestus. The regiment served in countless campaigns and crusades during M33 and M34 for which records are lost, but is supplied with fresh replacements from Hatald, so has never expired from service (unlike its sister regiments 15,16,20,23,24,25,26,30,31,35 & 36, which have all been retired due to losses).
In M35, Hatald was plunged into war during the Nova Terra Interregnum, being one of many systems in the region that lied on the front of the war between the two Imperiums. Hatald declared allegiance to Holy Terra, but was lost to the forces of Nova Terra for two centuries. In 954.M35, the 34th Hatalian regiment, along with the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th, 28th, 29th, 32nd, 33rd, 37th, 38th, 39th and 40th Hatalian regiments returned to the Hatald system to bring the system back into the Imperial fold. The Hatald system became a contested system for the next 12 years, during which time roughly thirty additional regiments of Imperial Guard and a chapter of Space Marines (Red Scorpions) were deployed in the war. With Hatald IV (the primary population center of the Hatald System) under control of the Imperium of Mankind, the Hatalian regiments could be reinforced again. Previously, the 34th regiment was combined with understrength Hatalian regiments to keep the 34th at full strength.Once Hatald was liberated, the 34th regiment remained with the crusading forces to recombine the Imperium of Mankind.
During M35, the Age of Apostasy gave the regiments of Hatald a lull in fighting to regain their lost strength and to rebuild the Hatald system. When Sebastian Thor returned to Terra and High Lord Vandire was removed, the system of Hatald was reconnected with the decaying Imperium that they had sacrifice millions to reunite over the previous millenniums. Hatald had expanded in size and power during the Age of Apostasy, as they were largely ignored while Vandire consolidated his power in Segmentum Solar. The wars in the Hatald System forced the hive cities of Hatald IV to construct military equipment, which they have retained the practice of doing over the last five millenniums.
During the Age of Redemption, Hatald tithed an additional 158 regiments for use in the redemption crusades. The 34th Hatalian regiment was deployed in Segmentum Ultima, helping to reunite lost worlds to the Imperium and help to push back Ork warlords in the Segmentum. The regiment returned to Segmentum Pacificus in M40 to help occupy worlds conquered by the Lord Solar Macharius.
In 678.M41, an ork rok landed on the agri moon of Hatald V (known as Hatald V-G) . The sudden ork WAAGH conquered the moon with a few months, throwing the hives of Hatald IV into panic as food became scarce and the poor began to starve as food prices skyrocketed. The governor of the Hatald System, Lord Jiun Gheranin, quickly conscripted five million men into hastily organized regiments. In 679.M41, the orks landed on Hatald IV, throwing the world into total war as ork roks landed at multiple locations. Lord Gheranin requested aid from the Imperium, which responded by redeploying the 34th Hatalian and any additional Hatalian regiments within the Segmentum to the planet. In 682.M41, the 34th Hatalian returned to Hatald IV. The regiment earned honors defending the Hive Titanus and eventually pushing the orks back to the rok from which they had originated, with the help of 12 additional regiments and the Red Scorpions. In 697.M41, the ork presence on Hatald IV was contained, and with the assistance of the Imperial Navy, the fight was taken to the Hatald V-G. The 34th Hatalian was deployed on the moon, and after two years of fighting, the orks were contained. A permanent navy presence has remained in the Hatald System to keep the orks on Hatald V-G from again leaving the planet, and the moon is used a combat training for tithed regiments before they are deployed throughout the rest of the galaxy.
The People of Hatald
In general, the people of Hatald live meek existences in one of the many hive cities on Hatald IV, working in factories that export finished products to other systems in the sector. The average citizen on Hatald IV earns enough to feed himself and his family, but not much more, as the industrialists of Hatald IV hold most of the political and financial power in the Hatald System. One way to exit the slums of Hatald is to be conscripted into the billion strong defense force, which offers its soldiers a opportunity to join imperial tithes and send a one time lump payment to their awaiting family, but at the sacrifice of leaving the system likely for the remainder of their lives. This creates a moderately wealthy class that provides services to themselves and to the upper classes, but the vast majority of citizenry remain in poverty.
The 34th Hatalian Regiment
The regiments of Hatald are organized according to a combined arms tactical doctrine, with six infantry companies, two mechanized companies, two armored companies, two artillery companies and two logistics companies all under the command of a headquarters company. In addition to the fourteen companies under the command of the headquarters, attached directly to the headquarters are any specialized forces and super heavy vehicles.
The 34th regiment has a special honor in the place of Hatald, being one of fifteen Hatalian regiments that remains from the liberation of the Hatald system from the heretics of Nova Terra, and also participated in the defense of Hatald IV during the Ork WAAGH of 679.M41. The regiment has a long record of combat throughout the Imperium, having served the Emperor for over 6,000 years.
